HUMS 2.2.1 is out now

First official communication

Hi,

This is the first official message we’re sending to the HUMS community.

We’re about one month old and went from a few friends to 10,000 music advocates across 48 countries.

Not everyone is visible on the map, some of you preferred to stay hidden. If that’s your case, good news: the new version of the app lets you choose your spot on the map. More on that below.

As of today, this is the community.

And this is us saying hi and thanks for the very first time.

This newsletter has no fixed schedule. It’ll show up only when there’s something worthsharing.

We’ll keep it simple and topic-based.

HUMS 2.2.1 What's new

1. Location & privacy

You now choose a general spot on the map instead of sharing your location.

We suggest picking a place close to where you actually live, to keep HUMS authentic and truly global.

If you’re already on HUMS, you don’t need to do anything. You can update your location anytime in profile settings.

2. Tune request city

You can now see the city a tune request comes from.

Tap on a profile name in chat to check it out.

This was one of the most requested features. A tune request from Tokyo might inspire a very different reply than one from Buenos Aires.

3. Bios

Add a short bio to show who you are.

4. Direct streaming from chat

Open songs directly on your streaming platform from chats, no need to add them to your library just to listen in full.

5. Faster tune imports

Smoother and quicker imports. More platforms coming soon.

6. Tune sharing in chat

Request and send tunes directly inside conversations.

7. Cleaner map clusters

Better readability in dense areas.

8. Refined genres & sub-genres

More precise filters for focused music exploration.

9. Copy chat messages

Copy text and links shared by other users.

Getting started with HUMS

Personalize your profile

Choose a photo (anything that represents you, it helps keep the map colorful and alive), pick your location, write a short bio, and go live.

Import your favorite tracks and choose your Daily Tune. This is how others discover you through genres and filters.

Move around the map or switch to list view by tapping the magnifying glass in the top-right corner.

If you move the map to a specific area and open list view, you’ll get quick access to users and music from that place.

Filter by sub-genre to see only listeners aligned with your taste.

Explore that sound through different people and countries, send tune requests, and let culture flow.

Use the heart icon to save conversations and always come back to your trusted music sources.

The #HUMSchallenge

 Try this.

One of our users, @musipal, suggested a simple game:

send a tune, receive one back that matches the vibe.

Then reply again, trying to match the feeling, and again…

No winners.

Just a musical back-and-forth between humans.

Real-time music curation.

A message from Leonardo

A huge thank you for being part of this journey from the very beginning.
I’m Leonardo Salvaro, a musician splitting life between Venice and Milan and founder of HUMS.
HUMS is a passion project built on a simple idea: music discovered through people hits differently.
We’ve received a few recurring questions via email and Instagram, so I thought it was worth
clarifying a couple of things:

  • Is HUMS just another algorithm in disguise?
  • Is it connected to big streaming platforms, labels, or major rights-holders?

No.

HUMS has no AI involved at all.
No major labels. No publishers. No big platforms behind it.
Just me and a very small team of independent people.
100% privately founded.

HUMS is alive. Feed it with curiosity and passion.
Pick a sub-genre, wander the map, send tune requests, and dig deeper with people.
That energy is what drives everything here.
This is why HUMS exists.
Enjoy the ride.

Community is everything at HUMS.
